Brief biography (updated on 01.11.2019)
Dr. Gabriel Pérez is associate professor and researcher at the Department of Computer science and Industrial Engineering (http://www.diei.udl.cat/) within the Polytechnic School of the University of Lleida (http://www.eps.udl.cat). His academic qualifications are PhD from Polytechnic University of Catalonia (2010), in the PhD program “Research in energy and environment for Architecture”, Agronomist engineer University of Lleida (1995) and, Agricultural engineer Polytechnic University of Catalonia (1993).
The main areas of research that he has been developed during the last years refer to the use of green infrastructure in the urban environment, essentially the roofs and green facades, as a tool to provide ecosystem services both at building and urban scales. Specifically, he has studied in depth the integration of green roofs and vertical greening systems integration on the building's skin in order to improve the thermal and acoustic insulation of buildings, as well as for the reduction of the urban head island (UHI) effect as well as the urban noise in cities. Other developed research topics are related to sustainable construction and the environmental impact of the building sector. Among others, he has conducted research on the use of recycled and sustainable materials instead of the high-impacting current ones, and also on the Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) to evaluate the environmental impact of the designed construction solutions.
His research figures are:
• Six-year accredited research stages: 2 (2019)
• PhD thesis supervised: 1 supervised, and 2 on-going PhD thesis
• Total publications 35
• Total publications in Q1: 25
• Total cites: 1512
• Average yearly citations (last 5 years): 44.5
• h-index: 18
• Reviews: 44
In the teaching field, he has been teaching in the Degrees of Industrial Engineering and Building Engineering, in the Master's Degree in Applied Sciences for Engineering as well as in the Building Information Modelling (BIM) master degree at the Polytechnic School Superior of the University of Lleida. Main subjects are relating to Sustainable Construction and Technical Draw applied to Architecture and Engineering projects.
He has been developing management tasks in the Polytechnic School of Lleida since 2006, held the position of head of studies from 2006 to 2016 for the programs of mechanical engineering and technical architecture, and as Deputy Director of Student, Promotion and Quality of this school from 2016 to 2019.
