Citole/Gittern/Psaltery: Secular and Religious Songs and Dances (intermediate level) / Cítola/Guiterna/Salterio: canciones y danzas religiousas y profanas (nivel intermedio)

Presentation

Plucked string instruments such as the citole, the gittern, and the psaltery, were used during the middle ages to accompany vocal compositions, to play instrumental versions of vocal music, and to perform instrumental pieces. They were used both by jongleurs and clerics as solo instruments or as part of instrumental ensembles. The players of these instruments utilized different techniques for the performance of single lines and to accompanying melodies (stationary and movable droning, parallel melodic movement, and intervallic change). The use of plectrum(s) produced a brighter and louder sound, with more attack, and the possibility of performing tremolos and faster notes. In this course, students will work on plectrum techniques, learn about different accompaniment possibilities, and perform solo pieces of the repertoire.

Los instrumentos de cuerda pulsada, como la citole, el gittern y el salterio, se utilizaron durante la Edad Media para acompañar composiciones vocales, para tocar versiones instrumentales de música vocal y para interpretar piezas instrumentales. Tanto juglares como clérigos los usaban como instrumentos solistas o en conjuntos instrumentales. Los intérpretes aplicaban diferentes técnicas para la ejecución de líneas sencillas y acompañamiento. El uso de la púa (s) les permitía emitir un sonido más brillante y fuerte, con más ataque, y la posibilidad de realizar trémolos y notas rápidas. En este curso, los estudiantes trabajarán en técnicas de púa, aprenderán sobre diferentes posibilidades de acompañamiento e interpretarán piezas solistas del repertorio.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
An intermediate playing level and knowledge of basic music theory and modern music notation. Un nivel intermedio de técnica con los instrumentos y conocimeintos fundamentos sobre música y lectura de notación musical moderna, capacidad de lectura en inglés.
