Lifelong Learning Master's Degree in Advanced Ecological Buildings & Biocities II
Lifelong Learning Master's Degree in Advanced Ecological Buildings & Biocities II
Presentation
The Master in Advanced Ecological Buildings and Biocities is an immersive program focused on learning how to design and build a new generation of buildings and cities to respond to the planet’s emerging climate challenges. The program is carried out in Valldaura Labs, in Barcelona, a 135 Ha property located in the Collserola forest. Here, students will live and work surrounded by nature while using the most advanced technologies and design techniques in the pursuit of what is also IAAC’s long term initiative, to create self-sufficient and ecological environments.
The curriculum of the programme is diverse: from short workshops with leading experts to module courses, regular seminars and lectures, and a year-long project with an emphasis on real-scale prototyping. The Master addresses the question of the design as a comprehensive, intellectual and applied project in which prototyping and fabrication processes are a central pedagogic component, emphasizing the role of the architect as a hands-on applied maker.
MAEBB02 second year, comprises an applied research agenda which incorporates investigation and research in material ecology, metabolic cycles, renewable energy and resources, and advanced construction systems at the intersection of advanced technologies, ecological awareness and architectural design. The second year of MAEBB02 focuses on the development of advanced, ecologically conscious solutions in collaboration with professional partners and Industries to answer the current needs and challenges of our environment and rapidly depleting non- renewable resources.
Students have the opportunity to be part of a highly international group, including faculty members, researchers and lecturers, in which they are encouraged to develop collective decision-making processes and materialize their project ideas.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor Degree: Architects, engineers, designers, material engineers, mechanical engineers and other related carreers.
The Master programme is oriented towards engineers, architects, artists, makers, designers, biologists, ecologists and graduates from any discipline related to the crafting of the built environment.
The programme is oriented at graduates who wish to commit and develop their design research skills in the context of new forms of practice within architecture and urbanism, ranging from large-scale environments to tectonic details and material properties.
Application process:
Applications are considered on the basis of an assessment of the quality of prospective students, their motivation, skills and previous academic achievements. Candidates are encouraged to give details of their motivation to study any particular programme. Once applications are reviewed, candidates will be invited to an online interview with the IAAC academic coordinator of the program. IAAC applications can be submitted each academic year.
To apply for any of our educational programmes, the applicant must fill out the online application form.
For the online application, the following required documents should all be submitted in English, with the exception of the undergraduate diploma that needs to be translated into Spanish. (All documents must be uploaded onto the designated space on the online application form in PDF format).
